Essendon Bombers vs Brisbane Lions 2013 AFL Round 8 preview and tips

The first of five games scheduled for Saturday, sees the Bombers hosting the Lions on Saturday afternoon.

The Bombers suffered their first defeat of the season last week against Geelong. Essendon were more than holding their own in the first half and held a slight lead at the major break. On the resumption of play, Geelong booted six goals to one in the third quarter and it was a gap the Bombers couldn’t bridge.

The game will serve as a good checkpoint for the Bombers and despite the loss; there were still plenty of positives to be taken out of the match and their first half effort in particular.

Unfortunately, not the same can be said for their opponents this week in Brisbane.
The Lions have recorded two wins this season – over Gold Coast and Melbourne however, their five losses have been by an average of 47.2 points.

Only once this year have the Lions scored in excess of 100 points (against Melb) and there’s a good reason why they’ve been given 50.5 points start here.
