Essendon ”fail” tests against top sides given where they sit on the ladder, but the reality is they’re a 5-8 team that will make finals but isn’t ready to contend for higher honours just yet.

But to ensure they make finals, they must beat the Crows on Friday night to get themselves two wins away from 13 wins which usually guarantees a spot in September action.

Adelaide has certainly had a good back end to the season, improving week by week, able to string together some good performances from time to time.

They’re a typically poor side on the road and haven’t beaten the Bombers in Melbourne since 2017.

The Bombers have been dominating possession in their recent outings, and their last two weeks are a perfect example of how an opposition’s class can easily limit their impact.

Their chase and hunt for the footy offensively has jumped off the page and they’re able to create good looks at times but are error-prone under pressure.

Adelaide will come in with good confidence defensively, keeping the Saints to only 39 points.

It’s a hard task against the Bombers who love playing at Marvel, scoring over 90 points in four out of six games this year, and to mention they haven’t lost there all year.

Adelaide’s tackle pressure has increased, and they sit fifth in the competition, which will be the best way to test Essendon.

There’s a lot on the line for the Bombers, and it’s almost a dangerous game given the Crows ability to play with freedom, but under the roof, they’re always comfortable.
