West Coast coach John Worsfold says his team won’t be fooled into thinking Carlton’s hectic schedule will leave the Blues ripe for the picking in Thursday night’s AFL clash at Patersons Stadium.
The Eagles will enter the blockbuster well rested, physically and mentally, following an 11-day break.
But the same can’t be said for Carlton, who will make the long trip to Perth on the back of their third straight six-day turnaround.
The Blues (6-5) must also deal with the pressure of breaking a two-game losing streak which has resulted in them slipping out of the top eight.
But Worsfold said the disparity in rest between the two sides shouldn’t make too much of a difference on game day.
“I don’t think it’s a massive thing,” Worsfold said on Monday.
“You adjust your training loads in a minor way. Every week, you adjust them according to what games you’re coming off.
“It’s a few days extra in our planning but it’s not massive.
“You can’t do a lot more than what you would do in a week anyway.
“All of that doesn’t interest me in terms of whether there’s any plus or minus. Our ability to go out and play at our best is what I’m looking for.
“Carlton will be well prepared and ready to go.”
The Eagles will welcome back key midfielder Luke Shuey from suspension, but defender Beau Waters must serve a one-week ban for his dangerous bump on Brisbane’s Jack Redden.
Worsfold said Sam Butler, Ash Smith, Koby Stevens and Mitch Brown were all in contention for recalls.
Meanwhile, Eagles defender Blayne Wilson, who was pick No.2 in the 2011 pre-season draft, is set to miss the next 12 weeks after fracturing his ankle in the WAFL over the weekend.
