Eagles sad, Freo happy after AFL tribunal

Star Fremantle forward Michael Walters has been found not guilty of headbutting Melbourne’s Jay Lockhart at the AFL tribunal.

Walters was reported by umpire Curtis Deboy and slapped with a one-game ban by match review officer Michael Christian for allegedly headbutting Lockart during the third quarter of the Demons’ upset win at the MCG.

But the Dockers successfully challenged that finding at a tribunal hearing in Melbourne on Tuesday evening, leaving Walters free to play against Carlton in round 15.

In the first case heard at AFL House, West Coast defender Jeremy McGovern was found guilty of rough conduct and will miss the Eagles’ clash with Hawthorn at the MCG.

McGovern was offered a one-match ban by the Match Review Officer after he bumped Essendon’s Matt Guelfi into the Optus Stadium boundary fence last round.

Guelfi suffered rib damage and was concussed in the collision and the jury found McGovern guilty after deliberating for 10 minutes.
