Dogs axe Minson, Hawkins in for Cats

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has swung a selection surprise with Will Minson dropped for Sunday’s clash against Adelaide

The 182-game veteran and All Australian ruckman in 2013 has averaged 26 hitouts across the first three rounds of the season, but is one of four changes to the side thumped by Hawthorn last week.

The Dogs regain Matthew Boyd, Marcus Bontempelli, Clay Smith and Easton Wood, with Dale Morris (pectoral), Mitch Wallis (back) and Brett Goodes (omitted) also dropping out of the side.

Beveridge has named Ayce Cordy, who has managed just 22 games in the past seven seasons, to go up against Crows’ ruckman Sam Jacobs.

Geelong have named Tom Hawkins to play against North Melbourne, with the team announcement on the club’s website saying he is expected to play.

Hawkins missed last week’s match after the untimely passing of his mother.

He returns to the side with Jared Rivers and George Horlin-Smith, while Jimmy Bartel (knee), Tom Lonergan (concussion) and Mathew Stokes (omitted) make way.

Stokes was battling an Achilles injury he picked up in the win over Gold Coast, but the Cats decided to relegate him to the emergency list on form.

Jack Ziebell keeps his place in the Kangaroos’ team after recovering from a bruised lung that saw him hospitalised for two nights earlier this week.

Coach Brad Scott made one change with Jamie Macmillan replacing Ben Jacobs, who was dropped.

Tom Rockliff has completed his impressive recovery from broken ribs, returning to the Brisbane Lions line-up after missing just two games.

Brent Staker and Matt Maguire have been dropped, while Sam Mayes (foot) and Jaden McGrath (foot) are also out.

Fraser McInnes will make his AFL debut for West Coast.
