Dockers ready for unpredictable Giants

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon says mass changes will make Greater Western Sydney an unpredictable unit in Sunday’s AFL clash at Patersons Stadium.

The last-placed Giants lost Jeremy Cameron and Stephen Coniglio to back injuries, while Adam Kennedy was ruled out through illness.

Veterans Chad Cornes and Dean Brogan were rested, while coach Kevin Sheedy omitted No.1 draft pick Jonathon Patton, Taylor Adams and Devon Smith in what will result in at least eight changes all up.

The decision to rest several players could result in GWS unveiling up to three debutants, with Gerald Ugle, Kurt Aylett and Sam Frost all in line to play their first AFL match if they survive Friday afternoon’s cut.

GWS have lost their past four matches by an average of 113.25 points, but Lyon said he wouldn’t be taking anything for granted against the new kids on the block.

“I think it’s unpredictable. For us it’s harder for the opposition analysis,” Lyon said of the Giants’ mass changes.

“I don’t think we shy away from the fact that they’ve won one game for the year. We understand that. We have an expectation of going in and winning.

“But I think the Richmond-Gold Coast outcome is a timely reminder for everyone in this room and our team that league games are really hard to win and if you get sloppy and you don’t concentrate and execute, you can be really vulnerable.”

Fremantle (8-7) sit just adrift of eighth spot on percentage, but will be without forward Chris Mayne (calf) and defender Greg Broughton (back) against GWS.
