Fremantle’s Anthony Morabito has opted to roll the dice and undergo the radical ligament augmentation and reconstruction system (LARS) surgery on his troublesome left knee.
Morabito tore the graft on the repaired ligament during training last week and will have the LARS procedure in Sydney early next week.
The 21-year-old has already undergone two traditional knee reconstructions, but the LARS procedure could have him back in action within three months.
Fremantle general manager of football operations Chris Bond said it was important Morabito was given time to reach his decision.
“Anthony really just needed some time and space to weigh up his surgery options,” Bond said.
“After discussions with people close to him, the football club and medical experts, Anthony has decided that this surgery will give him the best chance to resume his playing career.”
Morabito notched 23 games in his debut season of 2010, but hasn’t been able to play since.
