Dockers dominating Sydney in Perth

Fremantle unleashed their trademark pressure to take a 39-point lead into half-time of Saturday night’s AFL preliminary final against Sydney at Patersons Stadium.

The Dockers’ waywardness in front of goal let Sydney off the hook in the opening term.

But the second quarter became a one-way romp as Fremantle slammed through five unanswered goals to enter the long break with a 7.11 (53) to 2.2 (14) advantage.

Fremantle’s unrelenting pressure was simply too much to handle for Sydney, who continually turned the ball over.

The Swans were in damage control for most of the opening term, but luckily for them the damage wasn’t too bad despite losing the inside-50m count 17-7.

They say bad kicking is bad football, and Fremantle were guilty of that as they returned a wayward 2.6 from set shots.

Matthew Pavlich, Michael Walters, Chris Mayne and Hayden Ballantyne all missed shots they would normally nail in the opening term.

In contrast, Sydney made the most of their limited opportunities, with clever snaps from Lewis Jetta and Harry Cunningham keeping the Swans in touch at quarter time.

But Sydney were blown off the park in the second term.

It took them until the 28-minute mark to have their first inside-50m disposal of the term.

But even that came to nothing, with Jesse White spraying his set shot on goal.

The Dockers slammed through five goals to nil for the quarter, with David Mundy, Nat Fyfe, Matthew Pavlich and Aaron Sandilands all dominating.

Sydney midfielder Kieren Jack had a half to forget opposed to master tagger Ryan Crowley.

Jack tallied just six disposals, while Crowley had 14 possessions and a goal.
