Demons re-sign AFL trio

Melbourne trio Colin Garland, Jordie McKenzie and Tom McDonald have re-signed with the AFL club.

Garland and McKenzie have committed for the next three seasons, while young key defender McDonald is locked in for another two.

Garland, 24, has played 71 matches for the Demons since his 2007 AFL debut.

Most of those have been in defence, but he has had some success as a key forward in recent weeks.

Tagger McKenzie, 22 and with 50 AFL games’ experience, was a future leader and highly-respected at the club, list manager Tim Harrington said.

“Jordie will continue to be a significant part of our engine room for the long term,” Harrington said.

“He’s a huge competitor and is meticulous in his preparation.”

McDonald, 19, has played just 14 AFL matches and is currently sidelined after suffering a bleeding lung in a marking contest with Brisbane’s Daniel Merrett last weekend.

McDonald had to return from Brisbane to Melbourne by car because the injury did not allow him to fly.

He is rated a 50-50 chance to play against Fremantle next Saturday.
