Speculation is mounting that AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou is set to announce his resignation.
The AFL has called a media conference for AFL commission chairman Mike Fitzpatrick and Demetriou at AFL House at 10am.
Demetriou is tipped to depart after serving out his 11th season as CEO in 2014, with his deputy Gillon McLachlan favoured to succeed him.
Demetriou, 52, has been at the helm since 2003 and has overseen a period of great growth and expansion for the AFL.
The wealth of the game has grown enormously through revenue from big TV deals while the competition has widened to 18 teams with the addition of the Gold Coast Suns and Greater Western Sydney.
However, Demetriou has come in for rare criticism in the past year for his handling of the Essendon supplements scandal which prompted an on-going anti-doping investigation.
