Adelaide wants to get a true bearing on their ability by attacking AFL heavyweights Hawthorn on Sunday, Crows veteran Michael Doughty says.
Adelaide have yet to lose under new coach Brenton Sanderson, through five pre-season and two premiership matches.
But the Crows have yet to confront a legitimate flag fancy such as the Hawks, who they meet at the MCG on Sunday.
“This week is a big challenge to see where our group is at,” Doughty told reporters on Tuesday.
Adelaide will lose midfielder Richard Douglas to a hamstring strain, with Matthew Wright, Matthew Jaensch and Brodie Martin possible replacements.
Douglas is the sole player on the injured list at the Crows, which Doughty said was creating serious pressure on individuals to play well.
“We have got blokes in the SANFL that are in good form waiting for their opportunity, so the pressure is on to keep performing each week,” he said.
Adelaide have an extra two days of rest compared to the Hawks, who narrowly lost to Geelong on Monday.
“It always helps but that is not going to be the reason why we beat them,” Doughty said of the extended rest.
“We have to prepare well and go over there with the right attitude to win.
“We haven’t lost this year and we’re looking to keep the roll going.
“The only way to go over there is to attack them and show them what you’ve got and hopefully that is good enough.”
