Crows, Pies wait on scans on injured stars

Adelaide are sweating on scan results on skipper Taylor Walker and Collingwood are hoping for the best after they lost two players in their loss to Richmond.

Ben Reid suffered an Achilles injury late in Sunday’s clash with the reigning premiers at the MCG and James Aish hurt a posterior cruciate ligament.

Walker is the seventh hamstring victim at West Lakes this season, following Eddie Betts, Matt Crouch, Kyle Cheney, Kyle Hartigan, Sam Gibson and Lachlan Murphy.

The captain sat out the second half of Saturday night’s 48-point win over Gold Coast while David Mackay (glute) was sidelined after three-quarter-time.

But the Crows remain hopeful Walker will be able to lead the side against Carlton next week.

“It was just ‘awareness’ with Taylor … he was still able to run up and down the sideline after he came off with no problem,” assistant coach Ben Hart told FIVEaa.

“But it was a bit tight so we decided to take no risks with him.

“I’m sure if it got a bit closer and we needed Taylor to come back on he would have been able to do that.

“But it was a smart move because you don’t want that developing into something that could keep him out for a number of weeks.”

Brayden Maynard rolled an ankle for the Pies but should be ok to play against Brisbane on Sunday.

The Pies will await scans to determine the severity of injuries to Reid and Aish.

“It’s an Achilles injury of some sort (with Reid) and I don’t like the sound of that, but we’ll see where the dust settles,” coach Nathan Buckley said.

“Aishy’s a PCL injury and we have to get it scanned to understand the significance of it.

“So it would be premature to speculate on either of those boys.”

In other significant injuries from round six, Fremantle’s Michael Walters strained a medial ligament, Port Adelaide’s Chad Wingard strained a hamstring and Melbourne’s Jesse Hogan received a knock to a knee.
