About 15,000 Adelaide fans have flocked to Adelaide Oval, with most eyes focused on injured forward Mitch McGovern at Crows training.
McGovern is facing a fitness test on his injured hamstring at Wednesday’s training session — the Crows’ last public appearance in Adelaide before Saturday’s AFL grand final against Richmond.
McGovern must complete the main training session to be a selection chance for the premiership decider.
The forward missed Adelaide’s 61-point preliminary final belting of Geelong after suffering hamstring tightness the previous week.
The 22-year-old and his teammates were treated to a raucous ovation from the crowd when they ran onto Adelaide Oval.
McGovern appeared untroubled through the warm-up of a training session expected to last about 90 minutes.
His true test will come later in the session when he is asked to fully extend his right hamstring.
Adelaide vice-captain Rory Sloane said McGovern must do “absolutely everything at training and just be confident in it”.
“There’s not too much extra treatment that we can probably do … he has got to get through,” Sloane told reporters on Tuesday.
McGovern’s fitness is the sole selection headache for the Crows, who will enter the MCG as warm favourites to claim the club’s first premiership since 1998.
Utility Andy Otten replaced McGovern in Adelaide’s preliminary final win.
