Crows back star duo to face Giants in AFL

Adelaide are backing star duo Taylor Walker and Rory Sloane to throw off injury concerns and play in Sunday’s clash against Greater Western Sydney.

The key pair remained in the Crows’ team for the Adelaide Oval encounter when extended squads for Sunday’s games were trimmed on Friday afternoon.

Walker has had hamstring soreness, while Sloane fractured an eye socket on the training track a month ago.

Recruits Troy Menzel and Curtly Hampton will play their first matches for the club after switching from Carlton and GWS respectively before last season.

Adelaide have also recalled forgotten defender Andy Otten, who will play his first game in more than two-and-a-half years.

The 27-year-old’s most recent game was in round 20 of the 2014 season against Brisbane at the Gabba when he ruptured an anterior cruciate ligament.

Fellow defender Jake Kelly also returns after a long absence, the 22-year-old in for his first game since round 13, 2015.

The Giants’ highly-touted No.2 draft pick Tim Taranto will make his AFL debut against the Crows, while former Fremantle utility Tendai Mzungu will come off the rookie list to make a surprise debut for his new club.

North Melbourne have regained key forward Ben Brown for their clash against West Coast at Etihad Stadium.

Brown suffered a setback last month when he underwent knee surgery but proved his fitness in a VFL practice match last week.

Six players will make their debuts for the Kangaroos.

Jy Simpkin, Declan Mountford, Mitch Hibberd and Braydon Preuss will all see AFL action for the first time, while Marley Williams and Nathan Hrovat will wear a North jumper for the first time since switching from Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs respectively.

Former Kangaroos stalwart Drew Petrie will face his old club after surviving Friday’s squad trim, with Sam Mitchell and Nathan Vardy also to play their first games in Eagles colours.

Fremantle signings Cam McCarthy, Bradley Hill, Joel Hamling and Shane Kersten will make their debuts for the Dockers against Geelong at Subiaco.

Recent draftees Brandan Parfitt and Tom Stewart will make their AFL debuts for the Cats but Cameron Guthrie was withdrawn from the line-up with a calf injury.
