Collingwood’s Reid injured again in AFL

Luckless Collingwood forward Ben Reid headlines three injuries in the first half of the AFL match against North Melbourne.

The injury-plagued star lasted only four minutes into Saturday night’s game at Marvel Stadium before he left the field and went straight down the race.

He is out of the game with a calf injury.

Reid grabbed his right calf immediately after a marking contest and it appeared to be a strain or tear.

The key forward, out of contract at the end of this season, returned last week to the seniors and was among their best in the narrow win over the Western Bulldogs.

Reid also had a quad muscle injury earlier this year.

The bad news continued for Collingwood, with midfielder Brayden Sier ruled out at halftime because of concussion.

That meant the Magpies were down to two interchange rotations for the second half.

But North have their own problems, with debutant Kyron Hayden leaving the field late in the second term with an achilles injury.

Hayden, who had been running with Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury, is also out of the game.

Collingwood defender Matthew Scharenberg was a late inclusion in his return from a knee reconstruction, taking James Aish’s place.

Aish was ruled out because of hamstring soreness.
