Step aside, prison bars jumper debate—there’s a new headline-stealer for this week’s clash between Collingwood and Port Adelaide.
His name is Nick Daicos.
The Brownlow Medal favorite became the talk of the town after Collingwood’s loss to GWS in Opening Round, where he resorted to drinking pickle juice to combat severe cramping during the third quarter.
While Daicos is expected to bounce back with a more prominent role up forward, coach Craig McRae is likely more concerned about his team’s overall performance after being dismantled by a Giants side missing key players Jesse Hogan and Tom Green.
On the other side, Ken Hinkley begins his final season as Port Adelaide’s coach, with the Power entering as $2.35 underdogs and without Zak Butters (knee) for at least the next month.
In Butters’ absence, Conor Rozee and Jason Horne-Francis will need to elevate their midfield contributions, a task they handled well during Port’s 44-point pre-season victory over the Saints.
Collingwood appeared underprepared against the Giants, and both Josh Daicos and Jeremy Howe were left sore after the match. Given these factors, the +8.5 line for Port Adelaide seems more than generous.
