Cloke not distracted by contract talks

Travis Cloke says he feels under no added pressure to commit to Collingwood despite star midfielder Scott Pendlebury’s new AFL deal this week.

Forward Cloke comes out of contract at the end of 2012 and is believed to be a GWS Giants target for next season.

Cloke has indicated he wants to put off talks with the Magpies until the end of the season, though he suggested on Thursday that timeframe was not set in stone.

“It’s not a certainty it gets done at the end of the year – if it gets done beforehand, it gets done,” Cloke said.

“I just want to play football. If Walshy (Magpies football manager Geoff Walsh) and Bucks (coach Nathan Buckley) come to an agreement with my management, then great, it’s done beforehand and we sign it.

“Until then I’m here to play football and I’ll be focusing on that … I’m sure it will get done in due time.”

Pendlebury agreed a new four-year deal with the Pies on Tuesday, putting to rest speculation he may be lured by a big GWS offer.

The Magpies go into their round one clash with Hawthorn – a rematch of last season’s preliminary final – minus several key players.

Skipper Nick Maxwell heads eight regulars unavailable or injured, and Buckley said there would be new players blooded for Friday night’s match at the MCG.

First-year players Peter Yagmoor and Jackson Paine, and inexperienced Luke Rounds, Tom Young, Paul Seedsman and Ben Sinclair are in the selection picture.

“We’ve got a couple of young players that have played particularly well through the pre-season … you’ll see a couple of those guys pop up,” Buckley said.
