Collingwood skipper Nick Maxwell remains confident in-demand Travis Cloke will stay with the AFL club.
Power forward Cloke’s management has resumed negotiations with the Magpies, after they were put on hold mid-season.
Several clubs have been linked with the 25-year-old, who could leave the Magpies under the new free agency rules.
But Cloke’s return to form late in the season has coincided with renewed speculation he will remain with the Magpies.
He is chasing a five-year deal.
Maxwell said Cloke had suggested to him soon after the Magpies’ weekend preliminary final loss that a contract could be agreed to by the end of this week.
“He said `we should have something by the end of the week hopefully and I’ve always said I wanted to stay’,” Maxwell told Melbourne radio station SEN.
“Whether or not this morning’s meeting was any good … hopefully we’ll keep him.”
