Geelong’s Joel Selwood has been offered a reprimand by the AFL’s match review panel for misconduct after pushing his injured brother Adam during a fiery round-20 match at Patersons Stadium.
The panel assessed the Geelong skipper’s clash with West Coast’s Adam Selwood as unnecessary or unreasonable contact with an injured player.
Adam Selwood had attempted to flatten his younger brother with a big hip-and-shoulder bump that sent both players crashing to the turf during the match which West Coast won by five points.
Both hit their heads on the ground in the collision, but Joel stood up quickly to give Adam an angry shove while the older brother was still lying on the ground.
Adam was assisted off by two trainers but later returned to the field.
An early guilty plea will allow the Cats’ leader to be available for seventh-placed Geelong’s game against 10th-placed St Kilda on Friday night.
The initial penalty of 80 demerit points was increased by 40 per cent to 112 because of Joel Selwood’s four-game suspension during 2011.
An early plea would reduce that by 25 per cent to 84 points.
