Geelong have secured ruckman Hamish McIntosh in a trade with North Melbourne and recruited free agent Jared Rivers from Melbourne.
The Cats gave up pick 36 in next month’s national draft for McIntosh, who has played 107 games for the Kangaroos.
Injuries and the emergence of Todd Goldstein at North meant 28-year-old McIntosh played only eight senior games over the last two years.
“Obviously it’s disappointing to lose Hamish, but we wish him all the best for his future and acknowledge the significant contribution he’s made to our football club,” Kangaroos football manager Donald McDonald said.
It is understood that McIntosh has joined the Cats on a three-year deal.
Rivers played 150 games in 10 seasons with the Demons and won the 2004 Rising Star award.
He turns 28 on Thursday and was runner-up to Brent Moloney last year in Melbourne’s best and fairest award.
The Cats have recruited McIntosh to boost their thin ruck stocks, while they were in the market for a key defender such as Rivers following the retirement of star Matthew Scarlett.
