Geelong’s 2013 All-Australian nominee Steven Motlop has resumed running, two months after heading to London for knee surgery.

Motlop booted 44 goals last season, finishing fifth in Geelong’s best and fairest award and earning selection in the initial All-Australian squad of 40.

The star midfielder is several weeks away from playing his first game of the season.

“He didn’t complain of any pain or anything like that, so everything is going to plan there,” Geelong’s club physio Mike Snelling told CatsTV on Thursday.

“He has to go through all the paces of running, then get back to training and get some conditioning under his belt because he hasn’t had any pre-season.”

Motlop, 23, has played 51 AFL games.

The Northern Territory product jogged laps at Simonds Stadium on Wednesday.

Geelong coach Chris Scott was referring to Motlop and fellow small forward/midfielder Allen Christensen during pre-season when he said some of club’s injured players were irreplaceable.

The Cats have listed Christensen as being out for another two months with a back problem.

Geelong face Brisbane at the Gabba on Sunday.
