Carlton’s Kreuzer might face Pies in AFL

Star ruckman Matthew Kreuzer and midfield recruit Matthew Kennedy might be welcome recalls for Carlton in their AFL match against Collingwood.

The Blues are bullish that Kreuzer (groin) and Kennedy (ankle) will be back for Friday night’s clash with their arch-rivals after the pair had missed last weekend’s error-plagued loss to Gold Coast.

Kreuzer was picked, but he was a late withdrawal.

He and Kennedy, the former GWS onballer, were hurt in the round-one loss to Richmond.

Magpies coach Nathan Buckley would not say on Wednesday whether they would recall Ben Reid and Mason Cox for the match.

Cox is available after suspension, while Reid had pulled out of the weekend’s loss to GWS after the big American had kneed him in the hip at training.

“Whether we go with one or both is going to be horses for courses but it’s a structure we believe works for us, so we’ll find out,” Buckley said.

The Magpies must replace key position player Darcy Moore, who injured his hamstring against the Giants, and Tim Broomhead, who broke his leg in a sickening accident during the match.

Adelaide coach Don Pyke is confident Rory Sloane, Tom Lynch and David Mackay will be fit for Saturday night’s match against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

Sloane (foot) and Mackay (concussion) were concerns after last week’s win over Richmond, while Lynch (side strain and illness) has not played in the opening two rounds.

Midfielder Richard Douglas is also available after serving his suspension.

Meanwhile, North Melbourne key position player Majak Daw is a chance to return for Saturday’s MCG clash with Melbourne.

The Kangaroos have trialled the ruck-forward this season as a key defender. They were impressed with his performance last weekend in a VFL practice hit-out.
