The 2021 AFLW season kicks off this Thursday night at Princes Park (IKON Park) and no matter the context, it’s always a big deal when Carlton plays Collingwood.

Carlton finished the 2020 season in second place in “B” conference, losing only the one game out of the six and easily got the job done over the Brisbane Lions in the semi finals before the AFLW competition was shut down.

There’s plenty to like for the Blues prospects this season.

Coach Daniel Harford and his girls play a highly entertaining brand of footy.

They boast the likes of League MVP Madi Prespakis, along with All-Australians Tayla Harris, Kerryn Harrington and the always exciting Darcy Vescio.

During the off-season, Carlton was also able to get former Melbourne co-captain Elise O’Dea as part of the team which will give a serious boost in the Blues midfield.

Collingwood also has plenty going for them heading into 2021.

The Magpies had their best season yet, finishing fourth in the highly competitive B-conference with four wins, four losses and went down to North by two points in a thriller in the semi-final before the season was shut down.

When the two sides met last season, Collingwood recorded a famous 15 point win over Carlton in a match that many will remember for Pies defender Stacey Livingstone thoughts after keeping Carlton’s Tayla Harris quiet all day “You just have to stop her in the air, that’s her game. If you can do that, she’s useless.”

Thursday night presents an opportunity for Harris to return fire.

The Blues are hot favourites, but I’m going with an upset and think the Magpies are a good value bet.
