Carlton not fazed by looming shift to WA

Rather than be daunted by up to 10 weeks away from home, Carlton are loving Gold Coast life and embracing another change in scenery.

The resurgent Blues won their first game after relocating to Queensland last week by demolishing the Western Bulldogs by 52 points.

They have two more games at the Gabba in Brisbane to come before flying more than five hours west to Perth.

The AFL hasn’t released a fixture beyond next week, but Carlton will play Hawthorn at Optus Stadium in round nine while the clubs serve their 14-day quarantine periods.

“One of the things this group has been great at is adapting and being flexible with everything that’s happened this year,” Carlton coach David Teague said.

“The iso period, the way they trained was outstanding.

“We moved up here spent one week in one hotel and moved now to another hotel. We’ll move again to Perth at some stage.

“Our players love hanging out together, they gets lots of energy from that at the moment.

“The quarantine, as much as you can’t get out and do too much, you spend a lot of time together.

“There’s been some good cards, some serious ping pong going on and the guys are enjoying each other’s company.”

Carlton enter this Sunday’s clash against ladder-leaders Port Adelaide sitting inside the top-eight for the first time since 2013.

It’s given Blues supporters genuine belief the club has turned the corner from one of the darkest periods in its history.

“We want that expectation, we want to play in the big games, we want to play the teams on top of the ladder,” Teague said.
