Carlton Blues vs St Kilda Saints 2013 AFL Round 16 preview and tips

Carlton led arch rivals Collingwood by 28 points in the first quarter of their clash last week but simply didn’t turn up for the rest of the game and in the end, were trounced by 41 points.

All involved with the club stated that performance was not acceptable and it will be interesting to see how they handle themselves in this match, against a side who has beaten them the past four times the sides have met.

It was the Blues fourth consecutive loss and sees them sitting precariously in eleventh spot on the ladder, two wins outside of the eight.

After this week, five of their remaining seven games are against sides currently placed above them on the ladder so they can ill-afford to drop this game.

St. Kilda’s only win in the past five weeks has been over the struggling Demons but the upside, if any for them, is that they hold a good record over Carlton in recent times.

They last met in Round 7 of this year with St. Kilda winning 77 – 68.

But with Carlton likely to dominate the middle (they’re ranked fifth in the competition in terms of Hit-outs, compared to St. Kilda who are the most ineffective side) combined with them keen to put the embarrassing effort of last week behind them and the fact that this is a must win game, Carlton should be able to break St. Kilda’s dominance over them.

Tips: CARLTON 1 – 39
