Port Adelaide spearhead Charlie Dixon has slotted five goals in a 77-point AFL belting of a Brisbane side weakened by an injury to captain Tom Rockliff.

Rockliff damaged a hamstring in the second quarter of Port’s 21.10 (136) to 7.17 (59) romp on Sunday at Adelaide Oval.

The Brisbane skipper was helped from the field as his side crashed to a sixth loss in seven rounds – four of them by 53 points or more.

Port seized control with seven goals to one in a second-term blitz before a twilight Mother’s Day crowd of 32,399 – the lowest AFL attendance since the redeveloped stadium opened three years ago.

Dixon formed a dominant attack with the brilliant Chad Wingard and Justin Westhoff, who booted three goals each, while Port’s midfield, led by captain Travis Boak, overwhelmed the Lions.

Boak collected 31 disposals and Hamish Hartlett (24 possessions) and Ollie Wines (30 disposals) were busy, and half-back Jasper Pittard continued his breakout season with an influential 30 disposals.

The Lions had started strongly – 19 to seven inside 50s in the first quarter for a 4.4 to 3.1 lead.

But they mustered just one goal in two bleak quarters while Port helped themselves to 11, despite Lions Dayne Beams (30 possessions) and Dayne Zorko (22 touches, two goals) battling gamely and Stefan Martin (51 hitouts, 22 disposals) winning the rucks.

Port (four wins-three losses) banked consecutive victories for the first time this season ahead of an away trip to play Carlton next Sunday, while the Lions host fellow strugglers Collingwood on Saturday night.
