Preview:

Carlton play Greater Western Sydney on Saturday, 1.45pm at Etihad Stadium.  The Blues managed a win over Brisbane last week, and should win this game against GWS without any problems.  Heavy losses are common place for GWS lately, who were defeated by the Eagles last week by 100 points.   With not much chance of Carlton losing this match, all eyes will be on the shape of the scoreline, with percentages likely to play an important role as the season progresses.

Blues admit pressure on goal in AFL

Carlton utility Dennis Armfield admits the Blues’ goalkicking woes are due to pressure.

Coach Mick Malthouse has bemoaned his side’s inaccuracy in front of the big sticks, saying their costly misses are allowing opposition teams to stay in the contest longer than would otherwise be the case.

Carlton defeated Brisbane by 13 points on Saturday, but their return of 13.20 (98) kept the Lions in the game throughout, despite having eight less scoring shots.

“It’s more us rushing,” Armfield said.

“We’re not taking our time. We get the 30 seconds. however we’re still rushing in.

“It was such a hard-fought game and a bit of pressure maybe got to us but we”ll work on that under game simulation as much as we can.

“We’ll work on it throughout the week.”

Armfield said the Blues were beginning to understand the different overall philosophy Malthouse had brought to the club which should help them in the second half of the season.

“We started a bit slow,” Armfield said.

“It took us a while to get through to a few of his strategies and tactics.

“But we’re coming along a lot better and we’re playing better football as the year is progressing and hopefully that can continue.

“Mick’s brought some great philosophies forward and he’s one who gets the best out of the players so I want to stay here and see what I can learn under him.”

Armfield, 26, has signed a new two-year deal which will keep him at Carlton until the end of 2015.

He has played 90 games for the Blues – including all nine this year – since making his AFL debut in 2008.

Carlton should be boosted by the return of Andrew Carrazzo (calf) for Saturday’s clash with Greater Western Sydney, while Chris Yarran (hamstring) is a possible inclusion.
