Preview:
Carlton take on Fremantle on Saturday, 7.40pm at Etihad Stadium. This is a very even match and one of the games of the week, with the Blues ever-so-slight favourites
to win. With their finals hopes in the balance, Carlton need a win here with only five rounds remaining. Fremantle will be equally keen to hang on to their top four position,
however, which should make for an intriguing match. The Blues really need their forward line to play well if they want to beat the Dockers, so pressure will be on the likes
of Chris Yarran, Jeff Garlett and Eddie Betts.

Giant Docker ready to soar over Blues
Carlton’s fleet-footed brigade have given opposition sides all sorts of headaches this year, but Fremantle will be banking on their 211cm giant to make the difference in Saturday night’s AFL clash at Etihad Stadium.
Speedy Blues trio Chris Yarran, Jeff Garlett and Eddie Betts have combined for 75 goals this season, with their electric pace and slick skills opening up a variety of avenues towards goal.
Fremantle also boast plenty of speed to burn in the form of Hayden Ballantyne, Michael Walters, Danyle Pearce and Stephen Hill.
The Dockers have become accustomed to operating with a small forward line due to the glut of injuries to their key position players.
But with three-time All-Australian Aaron Sandilands back up and going, Fremantle want to make the most of his aerial powers in a bid to boost their attacking firepower.
Dockers coach Ross Lyon admits Sandilands was under-utilised by his teammates in last week’s win over Adelaide.
But the star ruckman can expect far more supply against the Blues.
“Contested marks are a high premium,” Lyon said on Thursday.
“They’re hard to take, and the blokes who can take them get paid a lot of money because it just allows you to move the ball in a really tough situation.
“He can be the link between our back half and front half.
“He’s building to good form. He’ll be better for the run again and he’ll come to hand. It’s great to have him back.”
Fremantle will be boosted by the return of Ballantyne from a hamstring injury, but skipper Matthew Pavlich (suspended) and defender Luke McPharlin (calf) are still missing.
Lyon praised the impact of Ballantyne, but not just for the goals he kicks.
“He makes us a better team because he works hard for his teammates and allows them to play better footy as well,” Lyon said.
Fremantle remain right in the hunt to secure a top-four berth, while Carlton sit one win adrift of eighth spot and face a battle to make the finals in Mick Malthouse’s first year in charge.
