It looks like the AFL captains may have had a sneaky look on sportsbet before conducting the league’s annual captains poll, with their votes echoing the thoughts of punters as to what will happen in season 2013.
Buddy Franklin was the clear choice by the captains to win the Coleman Medal, with the market set by the online bookmaker agreeing as the Hawthorn full forward is the $3.25 favourite.
Trent Cotchin was also the captain’s pick to win the Brownlow, with the Tigers star the equal $8.00 favourite along with Gary Ablett who was the next pick by the captains. Despite not receiving a vote from the captains, last year’s winner Jobe Watson is also a $8.00 equal favourite.
Hawthorn and West Coast received seven votes each to make the grand final and are the first two in the market at $2.50 and $3.50 respectively, while Sydney were voted the most likely team to make the finals, also looking likely at $1.16.
Gold Coast gun Jaeger O’Meara dominated the captain’s voting to win the Rising Star award and he is the clear favourite at $6.00. However interestingly the punters haven’t agreed on this situation, with Adelaide’s Brad Crouch priced at $9.00 but receiving more money to win than any other player, despite not receiving one vote from the captains.
“For the most part it looks like the captains are on the same page as the punters. Either that or they had a quick look at our app on the way to casting their votes!” said sportsbet.com.au’s Shaun Anderson.
