Cameron named GWS’s best and fairest

Greater Western Sydney’s Jeremy Cameron may have missed out on the Coleman Medal, but on Saturday his stellar second season was duly recognised at the AFL club’s best and fairest night.

Cameron finished third on the league’s goal-kicking table, six goals behind Hawthorn gun Jarryd Roughead.

Nonetheless, for a 20-year-old to kick 62 goals at a club that struggled to one win was a major achievement that underlined Cameron’s immense potential.

Cameron was awarded the Kevin Sheedy medal, tallying 64 votes to top the club’s best and fairest count ahead of co-captain Callan Ward (59 votes) and vice-captain Tom Scully (55).

“Jeremy Cameron had to play a lone hand up forward for a lot of the season and the way he provided an avenue to goal from limited inside-50s was outstanding,” said outgoing coach Sheedy.

“You have to remember that Jeremy didn’t play a game of football until he was 15 years old. He’s worked very hard since coming to the Giants and he deserves this award.”

Cameron also won GWS’s members’ choice award, goal-of-the-year gong and leading goal-kicker prize.

Scully took home the coaches’ award.
