Bulldogs’ Murphy hopes for short AFL break

Western Bulldogs defender Bob Murphy hopes to miss just one match after being subbed off with a hamstring injury in Saturday night’s big AFL loss to Essendon.

Murphy said while the damage was yet to be assessed, it did not feel like a serious tear.

“I pulled up a bit tight in the second quarter,” Murphy told the Seven Network’s AFL Game Day on Sunday.

“I went back out and it tightened up even further.

“I haven’t had a scan or anything, but I would think it’s on the lower end, hopefully just one week.”

The Bulldogs face Fremantle in Perth on Sunday.

Hawthorn are hoping the AFL’s leading goal-kicker Lance Franklin will not miss any football, despite also feeling hamstring tightness, against Carlton on Friday night.

Franklin finished the match on the bench, after starring with four goals, but scans have cleared him of structural damage.

The Hawks will assess Franklin at training this week before deciding whether he plays against Greater Western Sydney at the MCG on Sunday.

Giants veteran Luke Power has been cleared of broken ribs, but will still be in doubt for the Hawks clash after copping a heavy knock against Sydney on Saturday night.

The Giants are more concerned over a foot injury to youngster Dylan Shiel, which could be season ending, although he was still to be scanned.

Carlton were still assessing the damage to fullback Michael Jamison’s shoulder, which he injured in the Blues’ loss to the Hawks.

But it is a major worry for the Blues, given Jamison’s history of shoulder injuries.

Carlton were already set to be without fellow key defender Lachie Henderson (groin) for their next three or four matches and have lost another backman, Jeremy Laidler, for the season.

It leaves the Blues facing a daunting task against a Travis Cloke-led Collingwood attack at the MCG on Friday night.

Richmond expect to be without small forward Jake King for six weeks after he sustained a knee medial ligament injury against Adelaide on Saturday.
