The Western Bulldogs have ended their club-imposed suspension of Tom Boyd, recalling the key forward for Saturday’s AFL match against Gold Coast.
Boyd had been suspended indefinitely by the Dogs for a drunken altercation with teammate Zaine Cordy while recovering from a shoulder injury – he hasn’t played an AFL game since round four.
The Suns lost three seasoned campaigners with captain Gary Ablett (shoulder), Michael Rischitelli (knee) and Dion Prestia (knee) all unavailable, replaced by Jarrad Grant, Mitch Hallahan and Jesse Lonergan.
North Melbourne summoned three big guns – Nick Dal Santo, Jarrad Waite and Daniel Wells – for Saturday’s fixture against Port Adelaide.
The Kangaroos lost Mason Wood (knee) and Farren Ray (hamstring) to injury and dropped Trent Dumont, while Port also made three changes with Brad Ebert (bruised lung), Nathan Krakouer (family funeral) and Cam O’Shea (omitted) replaced by Sam Gray, Paul Stewart and Brendon Ah Chee.
Geelong rested Brownlow medallist Jimmy Bartel for their away trip to meet Fremantle on Friday night and also dumped Mitch Clark and Darcy Lang, recalling Shane Kersten, Rhys Stanley and Josh Cowan.
The Dockers named experienced duo Michael Barlow and Tendai Mzungu as replacements for Ed Langdon (hamstring) and Darcy Tucker (omitted).
Essendon included key duo David Zaharakis and Matthew Leuenberger for Saturday afternoon’s encounter against Richmond, who dumped Reece Conca in favour of Shaun Grigg.
Collingwood made one change for their Saturday night away match against Adelaide with Alex Fasolo forced out by a shoulder injury and Levi Greenwood recalled. The Crows named an unchanged side.
In Sunday selection news, St Kilda lost Shane Savage to concussion for their match against Melbourne.
And Brisbane couldn’t consider Daniel Merrett due to illness for their game against Greater Western Sydney, who dropped Rhys Palmer.
