Brisbane Lions vs Geelong Cats Preview
The Brisbane Lions will raise their 2024 Premiership flag when they face the Geelong Cats in the 2025 AFL season opener at the Gabba on Thursday night.
Brisbane’s thrilling preliminary final victory over Geelong in 2024 saw them come from 25 points behind to win 95-85.
Lachie Neale starred in that match with 31 disposals and 12 clearances, and the Lions boasted an impressive 11-1 record when he posted 30+ disposals.
Neale also played a key role in their commanding 120-60 grand final win over Sydney, though it was Will Ashcroft who claimed the Norm Smith Medal after recording 30 disposals and a goal.
The Lions have since drafted Will’s younger brother, Levi, but the retirement of Joe Daniher leaves a gap in their forward line.
Meanwhile, Geelong has bolstered their ranks with Bailey Smith from the Western Bulldogs and will look to continue their premiership push in 2025.
