A player leadership vote held recently at a camp near the country Victorian town of Healesville will go a long way to deciding if Jobe Watson continues as Essendon captain.
New coach John Worsfold wants to wait to be sure that Watson has the passion to continue in the role and that he’s the consensus choice of the players, the match committee and the club’s executive before giving the veteran his blessing.
While not a straight captaincy vote, the leadership survey taking in a range of criteria will be a key factor in the appointment of the club’s skipper for 2016.
