Last-goal hero Cale Hooker says Essendon’s win against reigning AFL premiers Hawthorn has done wonders for the Bombers’ self-belief.

Essendon thought they could match it with the competition’s best after their heartbreaking round-one loss to Sydney, but they’re sure of it following Sunday’s stunning last-minute win over the Hawks.

“I think to show that heart at the end … it really does help our belief,” Hooker said on Monday.

“We know we’re a good side and we can match it with the best.”
