Carlton coach Mick Malthouse says the Blues must find a way to restrict Gold Coast superstar Gary Ablett on Saturday, but not at the expense of letting his teammates run free.
Ablett gathered 49 disposals and two goals to help the Suns upset Collingwood last round.
But Malthouse says the Suns are developing nicely under his former assistant Guy McKenna and have become much more than a one-man team.
“We know what sort of player he (Ablett) is,” said Malthouse.
“He’s a 35 (disposals) average player who doesn’t get the ball and bang it and keep getting possessions.
“He uses the football, he’ll kick the goal that will be the crunch goal like he did last week.
“We’ve got to put some time into him but we’ve also got to put time into a lot of other players.
“If it was just Ablett I’d be quiet happy.”
The Blues said on Wednesday that tall defender Simon White will miss the rest of the season after fracturing a vertebrae in his neck playing in the VFL last weekend.
White is expected to spend the next eight weeks wearing a neck brace and Malthouse said the injury underlined the importance of rules protecting players heads and necks.
