Blues’ Murphy upbeat about AFL return

Carlton AFL midfield star Marc Murphy rates himself an “85 per cent” chance to make his comeback from a fractured shoulder in Friday night’s crucial round-16 clash with North Melbourne.

Murphy trained strongly with the Blues on Tuesday and says he has pulled up well from a series of tackling and bumping drills.

Carlton’s 2011 club champion has been out of action since the round-eight game against Adelaide on May 20.

Carlton and North are both on 7-7 win-loss records and sit just outside the top eight.

Blues’ coach Brett Ratten helped get his side’s finals campaign back on track by masterminding an upset win over Collingwood last week but he must be tempted to rush Murphy’s class back into his midfield rotation against the Kangaroos.

“I trained fully yesterday so I’ve just got to get through another session tomorrow and then work out with ‘Ratts’ and the coaching staff and see if they want me to play on Friday night,” an upbeat Murphy told afl.com.au on Wednesday.
