North Melbourne have joined Geelong in the hunt for Port Adelaide’s star AFL midfielder Travis Boak.
The Power reacted angrily this week after a Geelong contingent including coach Chris Scott and players Joel Selwood and Jimmy Bartel visited Port’s joint reigning best and fairest in Adelaide on Sunday.
But it emerged on Thursday night that Kangaroos representatives including coach Brad Scott, captain Andrew Swallow and sports scientist Steve Saunders met with Boak and his manager Tom Petroro in Melbourne recently.
Kangaroos president James Brayshaw said while the club had not put an official offer to the 23-year-old, they had given an indication of what they were willing to put forward.
“It was more a case of you sit down with someone and say ‘If you decide to come home, this is what it could look like,'” Brayshaw told the Nine Network’s AFL Footy Show.
Boak has indicated he is considering returning to Victoria to be near family, although it is believed he is more likely to stay with the Power.
The Cats were considered the frontrunners if he returned to his home state, given his family is in the Geelong region.
While there are believed to be several other Victorian suitors, Brayshaw said the indication from Boak was that if he did move it would be to either Geelong or the Kangaroos.
“As I understand it Travis and his management have said they only want to speak to two clubs, Geelong being one and North Melbourne being the other,” Brayshaw said.
“My view is interstate players coming back, if they indicate they are going to return home, on behalf of your supporters and members you’d be negligent not to look at someone of Travis’s credentials.”
