AFL Saints re-sign Fisher, McEvoy

St Kilda’s reigning club champion Sam Fisher and No.1 ruckman Ben McEvoy have re-signed for the AFL club, the Saints announced on Thursday night.

Key defender Fisher, 29, has committed to play on with the Saints until the end of the 2014 season.

Ruckman McEvoy, 22, has signed for another three years to the completion of the 2015 season.

While out-of-contract utility Brendon Goddard remains a major recruiting target for first-year club Greater Western Sydney, the Saints were celebrating their good news with McEvoy and Fisher.

McEvoy, who made his debut in 2008, played 22 of a possible 23 games last year and was awarded the club’s most promising player award.

Fisher claimed his second club best and fairest trophy in 2011 after averaging 21 possessions and six marks per game.

“We’re a club firmly focused on the future and it’s very pleasing that Sam Fisher and Ben McEvoy will be a part of that future,” St Kilda’s head of football Chris Pelchen said in a statement.
