St Kilda AFL coach Scott Watters says the Saints are determined to educate drink-driving offender Jack Steven about how to re-shape the rest of his football career.
Steven, 22, has been suspended by the Saints for one match following a drink-driving offence on his way to a Sunday-morning training session last week.
The 48-game veteran was pulled over by police and returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.08.
The Lorne/Geelong Falcons product was fined $423 by police and will lose his licence for six months.
“He’s just got to get back to basics now and reshape the rest of his year,” Watters said on Friday.
“It’s been a tough week for him, but you’ve got to be accountable for your actions and he will be.
“He’ll move forward from this.
“Jack made a poor choice, (but) at the same time we have a responsibility to put an educational program around Jack and make sure that the next five, six, seven, eight years of his career are really solid.
“We’ll support him. He made a mistake. He’s not the first person to do that,” Watters told the afl.com.au website.
On-baller Steven has played all 14 games for the Saints in 2012 and is averaging 21 disposals.
The Saints face Brisbane on Saturday night at the Gabba.
