An almost full-strength Richmond defeated last year’s AFL premiers Geelong by 59 points in the third round of the pre-season competition on Saturday, winning 1.14.15 (108) to 0.6.13 (49).
Richmond had almost all of their best players on the field – only missing Brett Deledio (hamstring) and Reece Conca (suspension).
Geelong were without nine of the last year’s premiership team and looked off the pace from the opening bounce as the Tigers kicked the opening nine goals of the contest.
When Richmond’s Bachar Houli ran out of defence and jumped on a loose ball just inside the Tigers 50 metre zone his goal and Richmond’s ninth gave the Tigers a 60-point lead.
The Cats first goal of the game came just a minute later, when Steven Motlop snapped from just outside the goal square.
Geelong veteran Stevie Johnson attempted to get the Cats back into the game in the late minutes of the second quarter, it was to no avail.
Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt was the most effective forward on the field, kicking four goals, while Jake King and Dustin Martin also kicked two goal each for the winners.
In a boost for both sides, neither team appeared to have a fresh injury out of the game.
