AFL player Heath Scotland convicted of assault

Star Carlton midfielder Heath Scotland now has an assault conviction after NSW prosecutors appealed against the AFL player’s sentence.

Scotland appeared in an Albury court on Friday and he now has a conviction with a one-year good behaviour bond.

He previously had a two-year good behaviour bond with no conviction following a brawl at Mulwala on the NSW-Victoria border in January last year.

Last October, Scotland pleaded guilty to assault and received the two-year bond.

The NSW Director of Public Prosecutions then decided to appeal the penalty.

The Blues last month suspended Scotland for the first two rounds of the regular season and also ordered him to donate $3000 to charity because of the assault case.

“Heath accepts the decision that was made in court today,” Blues football manager Andrew McKay said in a club statement.

“The club have already imposed their own sanctions which will not change and we all look forward to putting this matter behind us.”
