AFL names grand-final umpires

Matt Stevic, Simon Meredith and Craig Fleer have been selected as the field umpires for Saturday’s AFL grand final between Richmond and Geelong.

Stevic, a 400-game veteran, will officiate his eighth grand final and his fifth in a row.

Meredith will umpire his sixth decider and Fleer will make his grand-final debut.

“Matt, Simon and Craig have performed consistently across the entire season and fully deserve their selection in what promises to be a great grand final,” AFL head of umpiring Grant Williams said.

“I also want to take this opportunity to congratulate each boundary and goal umpire selected for the 2020 AFL grand final and thank every umpire who officiated AFL football this season.

“It has been a season like no other and I acknowledge and thank the commitment and professionalism from each umpire and their families.”

Boundary umpires Michael Marantelli (three grand finals), Ian Burrows (eight), Matthew Konetschka (two) and Matthew Tomkins (three) all have grand-final experience.

Goal umpire Matthew Dervan will officiate his first grand final alongside Steven Piperno (two grand finals).

Robert Findlay is the emergency field umpire, with boundary umpire Christopher Gordon and goal umpire Steven Axon also on standby.
