Preview:

In an exciting local derby, Fremantle play the West Coast Eagles on Saturday, 2.40PM at Patersons Stadium.  This is the 40th Western Derby and both sides are going into it with great form.  The Eagles have won their last two games against St Kilda and the Gold Coast, and the Dockers have won five straight as they look forward to the finals in 4th position.  While this is a tough game to predict in many respects, most of the money will be on Fremantle, who have beaten the Eagles by an average of 35 points in their last four matches.  While the Eagles have the fire power to trouble the Dockers, Fremantle have the best defence in the AFL.

News:

Adelaide premiership player and Brownlow Medallist Mark Ricciuto will join the AFL club’s board.

Ricciuto will become a director until an election at the end of the year, which should be a formality for one of the club’s greatest figures.

“From the moment I retired, I wanted to stay involved with the club,” he said in a Crows statement.

“I have now been able to re-shape my business commitments, allowing sufficient time to give this role the energy and effort it deserves.”

His appointment follows the departures of long-time board members and Crows life members Peter Hurley and John Sutton.

Ricciuto played 312 games for the Crows from 1993-2007 and was a member of their 1998 premiership team.

He shared the 2003 Brownlow with Nathan Buckley and Adam Goodes and made eight All Australian teams, one short of the record.

A 2011 AFL Hall Of Fame inductee, Ricciuto is the Crows’ longest-serving captain, holding the role from 2001-07.

He remains prominent in the game as a radio and television commentator, as well as having hotel and property interests.
