AFL Hawks’ Lake in hot water

Star Hawthorn recruit Brian Lake faces the prospect of sanctions from his new AFL club before even pulling on a Hawks jersey after a night out ended with him spending four hours in jail.

Lake was leaving a pub with his wife in Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula at about 10pm on Saturday when police arrested him for being intoxicated in a public place.

He was fined $563 and on Monday the 30-year-old defender has been ordered to explain his conduct to teammates.

“The club considers Lake’s conduct to be unprofessional and he will be required to address the leadership group,” the Hawks said in a statement on Sunday.

Lake was traded to Hawthorn at the end of last season after playing 197 games with the Western Bulldogs that included All-Australian selection in 2009.
