AFL greats named in multicultural team

Their names were a nightmare for some fans to spell, but there is no confusion over the massive careers that “Jezza”, “Dipper” and “Kouta” enjoyed in the AFL.

Alex Jesaulenko is captain of the AFL’s multicultural team of champions, a lineup that also features Robert DiPierdomenico and Anthony Koutoufides.

The team covers 1896 to this season and, to be eligible, a team member had to be born overseas or have a parent born overseas.

Jesaulenko is of Ukrainian and Russian descent, while DiPierdomenico is from Italian stock.

Koutoufides has Greek and Italian ancestry.

West Coast coach John Worsfold (England) was named in a back pocket and Nick Riewoldt (Germany) and Simon Black (New Zealand) were the two current players named in the side.

The team was announced to promote this weekend’s multicultural-themed round.

Jock McHale was named coach of the team, which also features Irish great Jim Stynes and Roy Cazaly.

The team features 12 Hall Of Fame inductees, three official legends and 44 premierships.
