Adelaide’s great attack options: coach

Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson says his AFL forward line has more tricks than just the emerging Tippett-Walker combination.

Kurt Tippett and Taylor Walker kicked nine goals when the Crows crushed Gold Coast by 69 points in round one.

But Sanderson says the Crows have more dangerous attackers to trouble Western Bulldogs on Saturday night at AAMI Stadium.

“One week it might be Tippett and Walker,” Sanderson told reporters on Wednesday.

“The next it might be (Jason) Porplyzia and (Ian) Callinan and (Jared) Petrenko.

“You can’t just rely on your key targets kicking the majority of the goals.

“If you can get 10 to 12 individual goalkickers on a different round, you’re going to go a long way to winning the game.”

Sanderson said Adelaide’s ability to find midfield goalscorers was important, with captain Nathan van Berlo and onballer Patrick Dangerfield each booting two in their season-opening victory.

“Midfielders that can press and kick goals too are certainly worth their weight in gold,” Sanderson said.

“We have got some players in there that have got the capabilities to do that as well, so we’ll look to share the load and keep that balance.”

Adelaide utility Ricky Henderson has been cleared of concussion, giving Sanderson another selection headache with a full playing list available.

And the first-year coach has opted for a simple tactic to motivate his players.

“In the changerooms now we’ve got a (video) loop of all the players who played in the SANFL, their highlights,” Sanderson said.

“So players come in off the training track and all sit around while they’re having lunch watching little snippets of the SANFL.

“You can throw a blanket over another eight to 10 players who are fit and in form and ready to play.”
