Punters are rallying behind Gary Ablett to win the 2013 Brownlow Medal in the final hours before the awards ceremony, cutting his odds from $1.80 into $1.75 at Sportingbet with a high volume of bets.
Ablett is clear-cut favourite at Sportingbet ahead of Joel Selwood at $5.25 and Sam Mitchell, whose odds have drifted from $5.50 out to $6.
“We’ve taken well over 2000 individual bets for the Brownlow medal winner so far today and more than 50% of them have been for Ablett,” Sportingbet Australia spokesman Andrew Brown said.
“There’s been a stack of four-figure wagers for Ablett and more $400 and $500 bets than I’m prepared to count,” Brown said.
Dane Swan is also attracting late support with his odds firming from $14 into $12. Scott Pendlebury has been rock solid at $11.
In Sportingbet’s top 5 market, Fremantle’s Nathan Fyfe has been heavily backed from $4.50 into $3.
“There’s been an endless stream of cash for Fyfe to finish top 5 today including several $1,000 bets,” Brown said.
One Sportingbet punter had $20,000 at odds of $1.25 on Selwood to finish top 5.
Sportingbet expects to take more than $500,000 worth of bets across its nearly 100 Brownlow betting markets today.
