Benfica will try to take advantage of host Zenit St Petersburg’s injury woes to continue its unbeaten run in the Champions League on a frozen pitch at Petrovsky Stadium on Wednesday.
The Lisbon club won its group, which included Manchester United, to reach the last 16 with three victories and as many draws.
Benfica is also the only unbeaten team in the Portuguese league this season and leads with a five-point advantage. Paraguayan striker Oscar Cardozo is the top league scorer with 14 goals in 18 games.
Meanwhile, the Russian champion, which downed Porto in the group stage to finish second behind APOEL, comes to its first game this season missing seven key players.
