easily, in what is not exactly the best Monday night footy ever scheduled. The Tigers have lost their last five in a row, and will have a very hard time turning that around against a Roosters side with seven wins in a row and all the confidence in the world at the right time of the season.

Roosters faithful picked me up: Pearce

Sydney Roosters stand-in captain Mitchell Pearce has credited the NRL club’s supporters for helping him rediscover his best form after a below-par performance in the State of Origin decider.

Pearce struggled to influence game three of his fourth series loss as NSW halfback, but has since been a central force in the Roosters’ seven-match winning streak.

The 24-year-old has said little publicly since Queensland’s 12-10 win in game three of this year’s Origin series, but this week explained how he was able to pick himself up so quickly for the ladder-leading Roosters.

“The tri-colours fans have always been supportive to me but especially after Origin this year,” Pearce told the club website ahead of Monday night’s clash with Wests Tigers at Allianz Stadium.

“I really owe our fans for that, they made me feel incredibly special when I returned from Origin.

“It’s something I will never forget and probably the reason I have been playing some good footy the past month.”

Pearce will play his 150th game on Monday night, skippering the club for the first time.

“Since it all (Origin) happened, he’s come out and been playing tremendous footy,” five-eighth James Maloney said of his NSW and Roosters halves partner.

“It’s great to be playing with him …he was a big part of why I came here in the first place.”

The Roosters were below their best in a last-start 28-22 win over Canberra, and Maloney said his side could not afford to flirt with form ahead of the finals.

“That’s a big part of this run home now, really starting to establish the sort of football you want to be playing come the big games,” he said.

“We’ve got to make sure we start that this week, because we were a little bit flat last week.

“You want to be hitting the finals with confidence.”

Superstar Sonny Bill Williams will return from a two-week suspension, but the loss of talented youngster Boyd Cordner will hurt the Roosters.

“It’s really tough losing Boyd, he’s been one of our best all year,” Maloney said.
